Target Information
Ataxin-1 (ATXN1) is a protein encoded by the ATXN1 gene. It is primarily known for its association with spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1), a neurodegenerative disorder. The "WT" designation refers to the wild-type, or normal, form of the protein as opposed to mutant forms associated with disease. Ataxin-1 plays a critical role in maintaining normal neuronal function, and its dysregulation due to genetic mutations leads to severe neurodegenerative conditions. Research into Ataxin-1 continues to be vital for developing therapeutic approaches for these disorders.
