Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 200 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Chlamydomonas reinhardtii
LHL4 (Light Harvesting complex-Like 4) encodes a light-inducible, LHC-superfamily chlorophyll-binding protein that localizes to the photosynthetic thylakoid membrane, where LHC and LHC-like family members function as integral membrane components of the light-harvesting/photoprotective apparatus. Structurally, LHL4 is described as a distant relative of canonical chlorophyll a/b light-harvesting proteins and is expected to be a small, hydrophobic, pigment-associated membrane protein typical of LHC-like factors. Functionally, LHL4 is strongly induced by high-intensity illumination, with blue and UV wavelengths being particularly effective in triggering transcript accumulation, consistent with transcriptional control by light-signaling pathways. Under light stress, LHL4 contributes to photoprotection by limiting singlet oxygen buildup in photosystem II and supporting survival, acting in a manner distinct from classical nonphotochemical quenching effectors; mechanistically, it associates specifically with the transient monomeric form of the photosystem II core complex to help preserve photosystem integrity during stress.
