The TTC40 gene, which stands for Tetratricopeptide repeat domain 40, is a member of the TPR protein family characterized by highly conserved motifs that facilitate protein-protein interactions. This gene plays a significant role in various cellular processes, including signal transduction and protein assembly. TTC40 has been identified as a novel methylated gene in nasopharyngeal carcinoma, where its expression is significantly reduced in tumor tissues due to hypermethylation. This epigenetic alteration suggests a potential role of TTC40 in tumorigenesis, possibly acting as a tumor suppressor. The decreased expression of TTC40 in cancerous tissues highlights its importance in maintaining cellular homeostasis and integrity.
