KOL presentation

  • Tuesday, March 24 | 8:30 to 10:30 AM
  • Location: Promenade Room 1 and 2
  • Speaker: Simon Hudson
  • Title: The Application of the New Thermo Fisher Stellar MS to Equine, Canine and Human Drug Testing

In this presentation, Simon Hudson will discuss the Thermo Scientific Stellar MS system, which combines triple quadrupole quantitative performance with ultra-fast polarity switching and high speed full scan MS2 and MSn acquisition using HCD or CID. He will share in house comparisons of existing HRAM and LC QQQ multi analyte screening methods for steroids, peptides, and drugs of abuse with methods developed on the Stellar system, highlighting improvements in throughput, sensitivity, selectivity, and laboratory efficiency.

Vendor presentation with Q&A

  • Wednesday, March 25 | 10:10 to 10:30 AM
  • Speaker: Edward Goucher, Thermo Fisher Scientific
  • Title: Adverse Analytical Findings: Bridging Research and Routine Workflows with Next Generation Mass Spectrometry

Adverse analytical findings require analytical workflows that balance speed, depth, and confidence from screening through confirmation. In this presentation, Ed Goucher will showcase integrated mass spectrometry strategies that unify targeted screening, combined quantitation and discovery, and confirmatory analysis within cohesive workflows.

Key topics include:

  • Tox Explorer targeted screening
Rapid, high confidence detection of known compounds using the Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Exploris 120 MS platform.
  • SQUAD workflow, Simultaneous Quantitation and Discovery
Combining targeted quantitation with untargeted metabolomics in a single experiment, enabling hypothesis driven analysis while preserving rich datasets for retrospective interrogation.
  • MSn on Stellar, screening and confirmation
Emerging investigations into how the Thermo Scientific Stellar mass spectrometer enhances structural insight and analytical confidence through advanced fragmentation strategies.
  • TSQ Certis introduction
Robust and selective quantitative confirmation of adverse analytical findings with the newest triple quadrupole platform from Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Together, these complementary workflows demonstrate how next generation mass spectrometry solutions support flexible, end to end strategies for confident decision making in anti doping laboratories.

Poster session

  • Date and time to be determined
  • Poster #6
  • Speaker: Edward Goucher, Thermo Fisher Scientific
  • Title: Selective and Sensitive Quantitation of 18 Steroids in Human Serum Using Thermo Scientific Stellar Mass Spectrometer

This study demonstrates how the hybrid quadrupole, dual pressure linear ion trap Stellar MS leverages combined CID /HCD and MSn scanning to enhance selectivity and sensitivity for steroid quantitation in complex serum matrices. Compared to conventional MS2 beam type CID approaches, alternative fragmentation strategies and MS3 acquisition improved limits of quantification for challenging analytes by 2 to 10 times, supporting high throughput, routine biomarker analysis.

This poster is the first to showcase how multiple collision activation modes and rapid MS2 and MS3 acquisition on Stellar MS can significantly improve selective quantitation of 18 steroids, highlighting the platform’s power in both research and routine settings.
