Name That Metal – #3

If it’s a Tuesday in November, it must be Name That Metal Day.  Every Tuesday this month we are challenging readers to see how well they know their metals and alloys. We have analyzed a sample and taken a screen shot from our handheld XRF analyzer. Can you guess what the metal/alloy is by looking at the analysis results? We’ve given you some hints. Don’t peek at the answer until you’ve taken a guess.

Today’s challenge involves two types of popular aluminum alloys. They visually look the same, but handheld XRF analysis shows a difference. Can you Name that Alloy?

Thank goodness for XRF handhelds! Welders heads up: project yourself from Austenitic stainless steels and cover your nose & mouth at all times if you are welding. Safety & health first!

Thanks for your comment, Lenora. We will try to put together an application note regarding metals and welding considerations after the new year. Stay tuned!
