Rat IgA is an essential immunoglobulin isotype that is predominantly present in mucosal secretions like colostrum, saliva, and tears. It acts as a crucial defense mechanism against pathogens that enter the body through mucosal surfaces. Rat IgA is made up of two heavy chains and two light chains, with a molecular weight of approximately 170 kDa. It is produced by B cells in response to antigenic stimulation and has the ability to bind to various antigens, including bacteria, viruses, and toxins.
