A two-day genotyping solution for demanding genomics applications

Microarrays have revolutionized genomic research by providing a high-throughput, scalable platform for analyzing gene expression and genetic variation across thousands of genes simultaneously. With their versatility, efficiency, and reliability, microarrays remain a cornerstone of modern genomics—driving innovation in healthcare, agriculture, and basic research.

Innovation

To further advance innovation and better serve our customers, we are proud to launch the new Applied Biosystems™ SwiftArrayStudio™ Microarray Analyzer. This next-generation instrument helps meet the growing demands for speed in high-throughput microarray analyses with a streamlined two-day workflow and reduced hands-on time, making it easier and faster to achieve results. The instrument is designed to deliver outstanding performance, flexibility, and impact across a broad range of real-world applications.

Highlights

Two-day (30-hour) turnaround time Minimal touchpoints—load arrays and reagents and walk away
High throughput—process up to 16 plates (6,144 samples) in a 5-day work week Integrated user interface with command console—no dock station required to perform instrument operations
Fast—scan each sample in as little as 15 seconds to get your genotype results the next day Scalable—run one sample plate at a time or scale up to 4X sample plates (*various workflow options are available to increase throughput in addition to batching)
One instrument, automated array processing— hybridize, stain, wash, and scan Robust—durable interior mechanics for increased uptime

Speed

The SwiftArrayStudio Microarray Analyzer has incorporated internal features that improve the speed at which array plates are processed. These changes increase the speed at which data can be collected from samples.

  • A single plate can be processed without manual intervention in about 21 hours
  • Improved autofocus algorithms during scanning enable faster calculation of the optimal plane for faster image acquisition
  • The average optical scan time for a 96-array plate is ~105 minutes; the average scan time per sample is ~1.09 minutes
  • The average optical scan time for a 384-array plate is 95 minutes; the average per sample is about 15 seconds
  • With the “load later” option, the instrument can process up to 4 plates in 28 hours and up to 16 plates per week

Flexibility

Thermo Fisher Scientific offers a growing number of microarrays in Applied Biosystems Axiom array plate format. The SwiftArrayStudio Microarray Analyzer has been designed to be able to run all current and future array plates, regardless of content, on the array. These include:

  • Applied Biosystems PangenomePro array plates
  • Applied Biosystems PharmacoPro array plates
  • Applied Biosystems CytoScan HT-CMA array plates
  • Custom 24-, 96-, and 384-array, as well as 96 mini-array options

Efficiency

Many of the key features of the new system advance usability and efficiency. These features make setting up, using, and maintaining the system easy.

  • High throughput—process up to 16 plates (6,144  samples) in a 5-day work week
  • Fast—scan each sample in as little as 15 seconds to get you genotype results the next day
  • Automated array processing—hybridize, stain, wash, and scan
  • Minimal touchpoints—load arrays and reagents and walk away
  • Scalable—run one plate at a time or scale up to four
  • Integrated user interface with command console—no dock station required to perform instrument operations
  • Robust—improved interior mechanics for increased uptime

Additional features

  • Everything required to run SwiftArray plates is contained within a single unit. No external power supply, light source, or computer workstation is required.
  • The SwiftArrayStudio Microarray Analyzer provides fully automated array processing
  • Newly designed universal wash trays reduce the number of different consumable components required to process an array plate
  • Runs are set up and monitored on the instrument using a novel, touchscreen-driven graphical user interface
  • The instrument is networkable, allowing remote monitoring of runs
  • The instrument can run up to 6,144 samples in a five-day work week with automated array processing

Reliability

The SwiftArrayStudio Microarray Analyzer has been designed to provide a robust and reliable platform that supports laboratory uptime. In addition to helping keep the data flowing, this helps minimize service visits needed.

  • A novel autoteach capability for the plate gripper system reduces positioning calibration errors
  • On-platform placement of four 1-L ergonomic wash bottles with simple snap-in mounting minimizes the amount of fluid tubing required to run the instrument
  • An integrated peristaltic pump is used to move liquid through the system
  • An internal multiwavelength LED light source, designed to last for the lifetime of the instrument, has been integrated into the platform. This eliminates the need for periodic replacement of the light source.

Applications

The SwiftArrayStudio Microarray Analyzer offers a robust and efficient platform for a variety of genotyping applications.

  • Genome-wide association studies
  • Population genomics and biobanking studies
  • Pharmacogenomics studies
  • Extended blood typing research
  • Carrier screening research
  • Agrigenomics research

Support

The SwiftArrayStudio Microarray Analyzer was designed to be easy to use and easy to service when needed. These designs take advantage of the Thermo Fisher Scientific global service and support teams so you can quickly get back to your research.
