Aluminum oxide finds applications in catalyst support, chemical sensors, as absorbent for gases and water vapors, manufacturing of abrasives, refractories, ceramics, electrical insulators and resistors, paper, crucibles, as chromatographic matrix, in fluxes, light bulbs and heat-resistant fiber. Heavy quantity of aluminum oxide is used in the production of aluminum and a component of clay. It is also used as catalyst in hydrodesulfurization and in Ziegler-Natta polymerizations.
