The Thermo Scientific ™ RapidFinder™ Specific Tuna ID Kit enables real-time PCR detection of specific tuna DNA that is present in food and feed samples. The kit detects blends containing ≥1% of the following tuna species through the specific amplification of a specific region present in the mitochondrial genome: Thunnus alalunga (Longfin tuna), Thunnus albacares (Yellowfin tuna), Thunnus obesus (Bigeye tuna), and Katsuwonus pelamis (Skipjack tuna).

The RapidFinder™ Specific Tuna ID Kit enables the simple and reliable detection of tuna DNA in food and feed samples. The method works by detection of specific tuna (Thunnus alalunga, Thunnus albacares, Thunnus obesus, and Katsuwonus pelamis) DNA that is present in food and feed samples by real-time PCR. Unlike ELISA based methods, when used with the GMO Extraction Kit (Cat. No. 4466336) for sample preparation, the RapidFinder™ Specific Tuna ID Kit detects blends containing ≥1% of the following tuna species through the specific amplification of a specific region present in the mitochondrial genome: Thunnus alalunga, Thunnus albacares, Thunnus obesus, and Katsuwonus pelamis DNA.
  • Simple-real-time PCR based assay, no electrophoresis needed
  • Flexible-specific tuna DNA detected in any food or feed sample, both raw and processed
  • Reliable-Internal Positive Control (IPC) provides process control check for PCR inhibitors
  • Fast-from sample to result in the same day

The assay is compatible with Applied Biosystems™ QuantStudio 5™ and 7500 Fast Food Safety Real-Time PCR systems.

Sample Preparation

DNA sample preparation is accomplished with the easy-to-use GMO Extraction Kit (Cat. No. 4466336). Using up to 20 g of sample rather than the smaller sample sizes accommodated by most other DNA isolation procedures minimizes sampling errors. The GMO Extraction Kit is compatible with raw and processed meat, as well as composite food samples.
