Desoxycholate Citrate Agar (Dehydrated)

Isolate and recover intestinal pathogens using Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Desoxycholate Citrate Agar (Dehydrated).

The medium is pale pink and clear. Lactose fermenting organisms produce pink colonies and may be surrounded by a zone of precipitated desoxycholic acid. The colonies of non-lactose fermenters are colorless, and due to their alkaline reaction, they are surrounded by a clear orange-yellow zone of medium.

Desoxycholate Citrate Agar is a modification of Leifson medium¹, for the isolation and maximum recovery of intestinal pathogens. It is less selective and inhibiting than Desoxycholate Citrate Agar (Hynes) CM0227.

• Easy-to-read: provides an opaque background to easily discern the clearing produced by alkali-producing pathogens.
• Preferable when shigellae are being sought as well as salmonellae².
