Perform an immunofluorescent test for detection and typing of herpes simplex virus I and II in direct clinical specimens and tissue cultures using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ PathoDx™ Herpes Typing Kit. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is an ancient and ubiquitous virus, known to cause acute and recurrent infections in humans. In the 1960s, it was recognized that HSV consisted of two distinct types, HSV-I and HSV-II1. HSV-I was considered to be primarily associated with ocular and oral infection (above the waist) while HSV-II was considered to be a genital infection (below the waist).
PathoDx Herpes Typing Kit uses four fluorescein-labeled monoclonal antibodies specific for HSV-I and HSV-II (two for HSV-I; two for HSV-II) to detect and identify Herpes Simplex Virus. The standard method for diagnosis of HSV is its growth in tissue culture cells2,3. The reagents are specific for each HSV type and will not show any cross-reactive staining.
HSV-I Typing Reagent (Purple cap) is one plastic dropper bottle containing 5.0 mL of fluorescein-labeled purified murine monoclonal antibodies specific for HSV-I, Evans Blue counterstain, an inhibitor of nonspecific staining, and 0.098% sodium azide in a protein-stabilized buffer solution.
HSV-II Typing Reagent (Pink cap) is one plastic dropper bottle containing 5.0 mL of fluorescein-labeled purified murine monoclonal antibodies specific for HSV-II, Evans Blue counterstain, an inhibitor of nonspecific staining, and 0.098% sodium azide in a protein-stabilized buffer solution.
