Use Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ PathoDx™ Respiratory Virus Panel Influenza A Reagent along with PathoDx™ Respiratory Virus Panel (RVP) kit to perform a direct immunofluorescence test for the qualitative detection of Influenza A in prepared patient specimens following growth in cell culture. Influenza viruses are negative-stranded RNA viruses of the Orthomyxoviridae family. Influenza infections are associated with seasonal outbreaks of respiratory disease, such as pharyngitis, croup, bronchitis, and pneumonia1. Usually one type, either type A or B, will predominate during each epidemic2.

Influenza A comprises of a single genus and shows antigenic variation in the hemagglutinin and neuraminidase proteins. Influenza A subtypes are identified by the hemagglutinin and neuraminidase antigens, H1-H13 and N1-N9, respectively3. Strains H1N1, H3N2 have been associated with pandemics in humans3.

  • Ready-to-use – Prepared reagents
  • Easy-to-store – Store at 2-8°C
  • Easy to interpret – Fluorescence is nuclear, cytoplasmic, or both. Nuclear staining is uniformly bright, and cytoplasmic staining is often punctated with large inclusions

Influenzae A Reagent (Blue cap) is one dropper bottle containing 2.0 mL (approximately 40 tests) of fluorescein-labeled purified specific murine monoclonal antibodies, and Evans blue counterstain in a proteinstabilized buffer solution, with 0.098% sodium azide as preservative. Influenza A can be isolated in MRC-5, RD, A549, HL, and MDCK tube or shell vial cultures with or without the presence of trypsin3,1.
