The Applied Biosystems VetMAX M. agalactiae & M. mycoides Kit is a molecular diagnostic tool for real-time PCR detection of the mycoplasms responsible for contagious agalactia in small ruminants: Mycoplasma agalactiae and the mycoplasms of the M. mycoides group (Mycoplasma mycoides subsp capri, Mycoplasma capricolum subsp capricolum, and Mycoplasma putrefaciens).

Features of the VetMAX M. agalactiae & M. mycoides Kit include:

  • Contains reagents for the detection in triplex of M. mycoides, M. agalactiae
  • Can be used to process sheep and goat individual and bulk milk samples
  • Contains two controls, enabling validation of the extraction and the amplification of the bacterial DNA

Each DNA sample obtained after extraction is analyzed in a single well; the same well is used for specific detection of the bacterial DNA of the M. mycoides group, M. agalactiae, and an internal positive control (IPC). A positive IPC signifies both the efficiency of extraction and the absence of PCR inhibitors in the sample.

This kit can be used with bacterial DNA extracted from individual-animal milk (for the diagnosis of cases of contagious agalactia that have already occurred) and from tank milk (for herd screening). Individual-animal milk can be extracted directly. For tank milk it is necessary to perform an enrichment of the mycoplasms by culture before extraction to ensure good detectability. Complete protocols for bacterial DNA extraction from these matrices are available on request from Technical Support.

For Veterinary Use Only.
