The ambient ion monitor (AIM) solution consists of the Thermo Scientific Dionex Ion Chromatography (IC) systems and the URG air sampler. The IC system provides superior separation of the ionic species, and hence accurate quantitation. While the URG air sampler utilizes a denuder, of which its collection efficiency was determined to be 99.8% for SO2 up to 550 ppb. The AIM solution demonstrates the best in class, offering detection limits of 0.05 μg per cubic meter, or lower, depending on the ions measured. Finally, the AIM is a fully automated solution from sample collection to analysis, powered by Thermo Scientific Dionex Chromeleon Chromatography Data System Software.

The 9000 Series Ambient Ion Monitor (AIM) is available in four configurations for the online determination of air particulate matter (PM) - PM 2.5, PM 10. The AIM provides time-resolved direct measurements of particulates (aerosols) and gases for anions and cations (depending on the configuration of the AIM):

  • The URG-9000A AIM - Particulates (aerosols) for anions only.
  • The URG-9000B AIM - Particulates (aerosols) for both anions and cations.
  • The URG-9000C AIM - Particulates (aerosols) and gases for anions only.
  • The URG-9000D AIM - Particulates (aerosols) and gases for both anions and cations.

The species that are measured include:

  • Anions (nitrate, sulfate, nitrite, phosphate, chloride, fluoride, formate, acetate, etc)
  • Cations (ammonium, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, etc)
  • Gases (nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, ammonia, hydrogen chloride, etc)
