Recovered protein can be run on SDS-PAGE and stained or analyzed by western blotting. Since the elution buffer contains 300 mM NaCl and 500 mM imidazole, recovered protein may need to be desalted or buffer-exchanged before proceeding to activity assays, mass spectrometry, or structural analyses.
