炎症性腸疾患（inflammatory bowel disease: IBD）は腸管の組織障害性の炎症を特徴とし、一般的には潰瘍性大腸炎（UC）とクローン病（CD）がこれに属します。両疾患とも、寛解期と活動期を繰り返す慢性の炎症性疾患です¹。

IBD患者さんの約10%は過敏性腸症候群（irritable bowel syndrome: IBS）と誤診されており、またIBD患者さんの3%は正確に診断されるまでに5年以上を要します²。
症状が現れてからクローン病と診断されるまでの期間は、平均9カ月です³。
患者さんの予後の改善と治療の成功率向上のため、IBDの早期診断は重要です^3-6。
エリアカルプロテクチン2のIBDの診断補助における臨床的感度および陰性的中率は、ともに100%であり、IBDとIBSの鑑別において内視鏡検査が必要かどうかの判断材料になります⁷。

炎症性腸疾患（IBD）に関連する検査試薬

エリアカルプロテクチン2は体外診断用医薬品として、IBDの診断補助およびUCの病態把握の補助に使用できます。

エリアカルプロテクチン2検査の感度は98～99%と高く、陰性適中率（NPV）は98.4%です。そのため、この検査は炎症性腸疾患を区別する優れた検査として使用できます^{8, 9}。
