2-Nitrofurantoin is an antibacterial drug that is used to treat urinary tract infections caused by certain bacteria. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria in the urinary tract. 2-Nitrofurantoin is metabolized in the body into several metabolites, including the 2-Nitrofurantoin metabolite nnn. This metabolite has been found to have some toxic effects in animal studies, but it is not clear if these effects are relevant to humans.
