3-sulfate Glycochenodeoxycholic acid (GCDCA-S) is a bile acid metabolite formed in the liver from chenodeoxycholate and glycine, typically as a sodium salt. It functions as a detergent to solubilize fats for absorption and is absorbed itself. The compound is a cholagogue and choleretic, playing a crucial role in hepatic clearance and drug disposition. GCDCA-S is a substrate for hepatic uptake transporters OATP1B1 and OATP1B3, which are essential for drug-drug interaction studies.
