5-Methylcytidine Antibody (MA1-80331) in ChIP
Matrix MeDIP in human brain was performed using a monoclonal antibody targeting specifically 5mC methylated DNA (Product # MA1-80331). Differences in at ActB transcription start site (TSS) and H19 imprinting control region (ICR) for human brain are graphed by fraction of input. For all brain samples, P = <0.003 for ActB vs H19, and for H19 5mC vs IgG (two-tailed, two-sample t-Test). Data courtesy of Dr. Karol Bomsztyk laboratory.

Heat-mediated antigen retrieval using a sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0) is recommended for the staining of paraffin sections. For FACS analysis, use 10 µL of the suggested working dilution to label 1x10^6 cells in 100 µL.
Mouse anti 5-methylcytidine antibody, clone 33D3 recognizes 5-methylcytidine, a modified base found in the DNA of plants and vertebrates.

Modified base 5-methyl cytidine (5-MeCyd) is found in DNA of plants and vertebrates. DNA methylation is a DNA modification process, which is involved in the control of gene expression. Reports suggest that in tumours, DNA is frequently globally hypomethylated compared to the DNA from normal tissue.
