CNGA1 and CNGA3 are genes that encode subunits of cyclic nucleotide-gated (CNG) channels, which are essential for sensory signal transduction in the retina. CNGA1 is primarily expressed in rod photoreceptors and is crucial for vision in low-light conditions, while CNGA3 is expressed in cone photoreceptors and is important for color vision and visual acuity. Mutations in these genes can lead to inherited visual disorders, such as retinitis pigmentosa (for CNGA1) and achromatopsia (for CNGA3).
