Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please, remember to spin tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from lyophilized material adhering to the cap or sides of the tubes.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Arabidopsis thaliana
AOX2, also called alternative oxidase 2, is a mitochondrial inner membrane protein in plants that forms part of the cyanide resistant respiratory pathway. AOX2 bypasses complexes III and IV by oxidizing ubiquinol and reducing oxygen directly to water without proton pumping, thereby lowering ATP yield but limiting reactive oxygen species formation and maintaining redox balance when the cytochrome pathway is constrained. AOX2 expression is induced by stress signals, high reducing pressure in the ubiquinone pool, and metabolites such as pyruvate, which can allosterically activate the enzyme. Through flexible electron flow, AOX2 supports tolerance to cold, drought, pathogen challenge, and photorespiratory load, and helps stabilize metabolic fluxes and signaling between mitochondria and chloroplasts. In species with multiple AOX genes, AOX2 often shows tissue or developmental specificity, contributing to fine tuning of respiratory efficiency and stress resilience.
