Aminophylline is a bronchodilator composed of theophylline and ethylenediamine, primarily used to treat reversible airway obstruction due to asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. Despite its therapeutic benefits, aminophylline requires careful monitoring due to its narrow therapeutic index, which can lead to significant side effects if not properly managed. The drug is administered intravenously or orally, depending on the severity of the condition being treated.
