Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Arabidopsis thaliana
BetaCA1 encodes a nuclear protein that is imported into the chloroplast, consistent with an N-terminal transit peptide that targets the mature enzyme to the plastid stroma, where it is a major soluble carbonic anhydrase activity in green tissues. The encoded enzyme belongs to the beta-class carbonic anhydrases, zinc metalloenzymes whose active site is formed in an oligomeric assembly and uses a conserved Cys-Cys-His metal-binding motif to coordinate Zn and catalyze the reversible hydration of CO2 to bicarbonate. Biologically, BetaCA1 supports plastid inorganic carbon chemistry by accelerating CO2/HCO3- interconversion, thereby facilitating CO2 supply and distribution for photosynthetic carbon assimilation (particularly important during early seedling establishment under ambient CO2) and providing bicarbonate for plastid-localized carboxylation-dependent metabolism.
