Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Arabidopsis thaliana
CERK1, also called chitin elicitor receptor kinase 1, is a plant pattern recognition receptor that detects chitin fragments from fungal cell walls to initiate innate immune signaling. It is a LysM domain receptor kinase at the plasma membrane that binds chitin and forms complexes with co receptors, leading to phosphorylation events that activate MAP kinases, calcium influx, and reactive oxygen species production. CERK1 triggers transcriptional reprogramming, callose deposition, and defense gene expression, enhancing resistance to fungal pathogens while balancing growth through crosstalk with hormones such as salicylic acid, jasmonate, and ethylene. Variants and homologs across species also perceive related carbohydrate signals such as peptidoglycan, shaping broad microbe associated molecular pattern recognition. Genetic disruption of CERK1 reduces chitin responsiveness and increases susceptibility, underscoring its central role in early cell surface immune surveillance in plants.
