Clothianidin is a neonicotinoid insecticide characterized by a thiazole ring and an open-chain guanidine skeleton, which contributes to its insecticidal activity. It functions by targeting the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in insects, leading to paralysis and death. Clothianidin is often formulated into controlled-release granules, such as CLO@GR-TA/Fe(III), which utilize tannic acid and iron coordination chelates as coating materials to enhance release performance and stability. The granules exhibit a core-shell structure with particle sizes ranging from 500 to 1200 micrometers. Additionally, clothianidin's metabolism and degradation pathways are studied for bioremediation purposes, utilizing bacterial consortia to evaluate its effectiveness in contaminated soils. The synthesis and structure-activity relationships of clothianidin and its analogues are explored to improve selectivity and insecticidal efficacy.
