Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Recombinant FIE protein
FIE encodes a Polycomb group protein that localizes predominantly to the nucleus, consistent with its role in chromatin-based gene repression during Arabidopsis development. It produces a WD40 repeat-containing polypeptide that functions as a scaffold within Polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2), partnering with the SET domain histone methyltransferase MEDEA to regulate target gene expression. Loss-of-function alleles demonstrate that FIE is essential to prevent premature seed development: in the female gametophyte, disruption of FIE derepresses the central cell program, allowing initiation of endosperm development without fertilization and causing parent-of-origin effects on seed viability. Beyond seed formation, reduced FIE activity perturbs sporophytic development and is associated with misregulation of homeobox and other developmental regulators, highlighting a broader role for FIE-dependent PRC2 repression in maintaining correct developmental phase and organ identity programs.
