Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 200 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Chlamydomonas reinhardtii
Ferritin 1 is a plant iron storage protein that assembles into a hollow multimeric shell to safely sequester excess iron as mineral core, preventing iron driven oxidative damage while maintaining a reserve for metabolic needs. It is primarily localized in chloroplasts and can also be found in other compartments depending on species and conditions. Ferritin 1 captures ferrous iron and promotes its oxidation and deposition, buffering cellular iron fluctuations during development, stress, and high iron exposure. Its expression is regulated by iron availability, redox status, and hormones, linking iron homeostasis to photosynthesis, respiration, and defense. Loss or dysregulation alters reactive oxygen species balance, chloroplast function, and growth, whereas increased ferritin can enhance stress tolerance by limiting free iron and protecting membranes and proteins.
