Flonicamid, chemically known as N-cyanomethyl-4-trifluoromethylnicotinamide, is a novel systemic insecticide primarily targeting hemipterous pests such as aphids and whiteflies, as well as thysanopterous pests. It functions by inhibiting the feeding behavior of these pests, thereby providing effective pest control. Flonicamid is characterized by its pyridinecarboxamide structure, which contributes to its selective activity and rapid inhibitory effects. The compound is known for its environmental persistence, with its main degradation intermediate being 4-trifluoromethylnicotinamide (TFNA-AM).
