Flutolanil is a broad-spectrum fungicide classified under the group of succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) fungicides, primarily used in agriculture to control fungal pathogens by interfering with the energy production in fungi. Structurally, flutolanil is an amide compound that inhibits mycelial oxygen consumption and succinate dehydrogenase activity in mitochondrial Complex II. It has been noted for its potential environmental impact, particularly in aquatic environments, where it can cause endocrine disruption and reproductive disorders in zebrafish upon long-term exposure. The fungicide is also used in turfgrass management to control various diseases, highlighting its versatility in agricultural applications. Despite its effectiveness, concerns regarding its chronic toxicity and environmental persistence necessitate careful management and assessment of its usage.
