GID2 is a plant F box protein that functions as part of an SCF ubiquitin ligase complex in gibberellin signaling. It recognizes DELLA growth repressors when gibberellin is perceived, promoting their ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation to activate growth responses such as stem elongation, germination, and flowering. By targeting DELLA proteins, GID2 integrates hormone cues with environmental inputs including light and stress to fine tune transcription and metabolism. Mutational or expression changes in GID2 alter gibberellin sensitivity, growth rate, and developmental timing, and cross talk with other hormones such as auxin and brassinosteroids further modulates outcomes. GID2 thus serves as a key adaptor linking hormone perception to regulated protein turnover in plant development.
