HPV Type 16 E1/E4 is a viral protein expressed during productive infection with high-risk human papillomavirus type 16. The E1^E4 fusion protein is generated from a spliced transcript and plays a role in viral genome amplification and disruption of the keratin cytoskeleton to facilitate viral release. It is commonly used as a biomarker to indicate productive HPV infection and is typically associated with low-grade epithelial lesions.
