The HSV tag, derived from the herpes simplex virus (HSV), is a small epitope tag used in molecular biology and biochemistry research. It is commonly used for protein detection and purification due to its high affinity for specific antibodies. The HSV tag is a short sequence of about 11 amino acids (QPELAPEDPED) and can be fused to either the N- or C-terminus of the target protein. This tag allows for efficient immunoprecipitation and western blot analysis, facilitating the study of protein-protein interactions, localization, and expression levels. The small size of the HSV tag minimizes interference with the protein's native structure and function, making it a versatile tool in various experimental protocols.
