Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 200 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Populus trichocarpa, Solanum lycopersicum
Jasmonic acid is a plant hormone derived from fatty acids that regulates defense, stress responses, and growth. It is synthesized via the octadecanoid pathway in chloroplasts and peroxisomes and converted to the active conjugate jasmonoyl isoleucine for signaling. Jasmonic acid activates transcriptional programs that enhance resistance to herbivores and pathogens, modulates secondary metabolism, and coordinates wound responses with rapid electrical and calcium signals. It interacts with other hormones such as salicylic acid, ethylene, abscisic acid, and auxin to balance tradeoffs between defense and growth, influencing processes like root development, senescence, and reproductive traits. Perception occurs through the COI1 receptor that targets JAZ repressors for degradation, releasing transcription factors to drive gene expression. Changes in jasmonic acid levels and sensitivity shape adaptation to environmental stress and developmental timing.
