The KLRC4 (Killer Cell Lectin Like Receptor C4) gene encodes a member of the NKG2 family of receptors, which are expressed mostly on natural killer (NK) cells and some T lymphocytes. This gene is located on chromosome 12 and plays a key role in immune surveillance and the activation of NK cells. The KLRC4 protein, also known as NKG2F, interacts with other receptors such as KLRK1 (NKG2D) to recognize stress-induced ligands on potential target cells, thereby mediating their destruction. Variants and polymorphisms in KLRC4 have been investigated in various immune-related conditions, including their association with thyroid diseases and cancer.
