Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Amaranthus hypochondriacus, Arabidopsis thaliana, Flaveria sp., Glycine max, Nicotiana tabacum, Zea mays
NAD-ME, also called NAD dependent malic enzyme, is a plant enzyme that decarboxylates malate to produce pyruvate, carbon dioxide, and NADH, linking organic acid metabolism to energy and redox balance. It operates in cytosol and mitochondria via distinct isoforms and contributes to anaplerotic flux, nitrogen assimilation support, and provision of pyruvate for respiration and biosynthesis. In C4 and CAM plants, NAD ME variants can participate in decarboxylation steps that release carbon dioxide near Rubisco to enhance photosynthetic efficiency, while in C3 plants NAD ME aids metabolic flexibility under changing light and stress. Regulation occurs through expression, allosteric effectors, and posttranslational modifications, and activity impacts stomatal behavior, photorespiration support, and stress responses by adjusting NADH supply and carbon flow. Perturbation of NAD ME alters organic acid pools, redox homeostasis, growth, and resilience to environmental challenges.
