NAD6 is a mitochondrial gene encoding a subunit of NADH dehydrogenase complex I that forms part of the membrane arm involved in proton translocation. In plants, NAD6 contributes to electron transfer from NADH through complex I and helps generate the proton motive force for ATP synthesis. Proper NAD6 function supports respiration, energy production, and redox balance, and its expression and integrity are critical for growth and stress tolerance. Mutations or impaired assembly affect complex I stability, reduce oxidative phosphorylation efficiency, and can alter reactive oxygen species levels and signaling between mitochondria and the rest of the cell.
