Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Guilardia theta
Nucleomorph HLIP encodes a one-helix light-harvesting complex (LHC)-like membrane protein that is specified by the highly reduced nucleomorph genome retained within the periplastidial compartment of cryptophyte algae, physically associated with the complex (four-membrane) plastid; in the model cryptophyte Guillardia theta, this nucleomorph-encoded HLIP is expressed and the protein is detectable, consistent with a functional role linked to the plastid system. Structurally, HLIP proteins are very small, hydrophobic polypeptides characterized by a single predicted transmembrane alpha helix (the defining "one-helix" architecture), placing them in the broader Hlip/OHP family related to LHC proteins and adapted for tight association with thylakoid membranes or thylakoid biogenesis/assembly environments. Functionally, HLIP family members are implicated in photoprotection and chlorophyll/Photosystem II biogenesis by transient pigment binding and energy dissipation (including quenching of excess excitation and protection against photooxidative stress), and in cryptophytes the nucleomorph-encoded HLIP is thought to contribute to maintaining plastid photosynthetic complex integrity rather than acting as a strongly inducible high-light stress gene, as its expression in G. theta has been reported to remain relatively constant while transcripts can decrease during high-light exposure.
