Target Information
Oligodendrocyte transcription factor 3 (OLIG3) is a gene located on chromosome 6q23.2, encoding a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor that is involved in the regulation of neural development. OLIG3 is a member of the OLIG family, which plays a significant role in the differentiation and maturation of oligodendrocytes, the myelinating cells of the central nervous system. This transcription factor is crucial for the specification and development of certain neuronal subtypes, contributing to the formation and maintenance of the central nervous system's architecture. OLIG3's activity influences gene expression related to neural proliferation, survival, and differentiation. Although less studied than OLIG1 and OLIG2, OLIG3's expression patterns suggest its involvement in neural patterning and potential roles in neuronal disorders.
