Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
Specific Species Reactivity: Arabidopsis thaliana
PEL1 is a plant pectin lyase or pectate lyase like protein implicated in modification of cell wall pectins to influence tissue expansion, separation, and remodeling during growth and stress. By cleaving de esterified homogalacturonan via beta elimination, PEL1 can loosen cell walls, facilitate processes such as fruit softening, abscission, and pollen tube penetration, and modulate defense interactions where pectin architecture affects pathogen recognition and barrier properties. Expression of PEL1 varies with developmental stage, hormone signals, and environmental cues, and activity depends on calcium, pH, and pectin methylation status. Perturbation of PEL1 alters wall mechanics, organ morphology, and stress responses, highlighting its role in dynamic regulation of pectin structure and plant adaptation.
