Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Arabidopsis thaliana
PR 4 is a pathogenesis related protein class in plants that includes chitin binding and chitinase like proteins implicated in defense against fungi and insects. PR 4 accumulates in the apoplast upon pathogen attack, wounding, or jasmonic acid and ethylene signaling, where it binds or degrades chitin and can disrupt pathogen growth and trigger defense signaling. Some PR 4 variants lack catalytic activity but still bind chitin to block pathogen enzymes or enhance recognition, while others show endochitinase activity that releases elicitor fragments. Expression of PR 4 is tissue and stress dependent, and overexpression can improve resistance though it may influence growth due to changes in cell wall dynamics and resource allocation.
