Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Arabidopsis thaliana
PR-5, also called Pathogenesis related protein 5 or thaumatin like protein, is a secreted antifungal protein induced by salicylic acid, ethylene, and pathogen attack. It accumulates in the apoplast and can permeabilize fungal membranes, bind beta glucans, and inhibit enzymes to restrict growth, contributing to systemic acquired resistance. PR-5 proteins are stable, glycosylated, and often acidic, with conserved folds that enable broad defense activity and roles in osmotic stress tolerance. Expression is tissue and stress dependent, and overexpression can enhance resistance to biotrophic fungi, while tradeoffs with growth may occur due to resource allocation and altered cell wall and signaling dynamics.
