This antibody binds to the Timothy grass allergen Phl p 1 and shows cotss reactivity with natural group 1 allergens from a variety of grass species such as oat, sweet vernal grass, Bermuda grass, rye grass, common reed, Kentucky blue grass, rye, wheat and maize (weak).
Phl p 1 binds to specific receptors on the surface of immune cells called TLR4 (Toll-like receptor 4) and MD-2 (myeloid differentiation factor 2). This binding triggers a signaling cascade that leads to the activation of immune cells and the release of inflammatory mediators, which cause the allergic symptoms. The interaction between Phl p 1 and TLR4-MD-2 complex has been studied extensively and is considered a key event in the development of grass pollen allergy. Understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in this interaction is important for developing new therapeutic strategies to treat or prevent allergic reactions.
