Prochloraz is a fungicide known for its effectiveness in controlling fungal diseases in agriculture, particularly in crops like Citrus sinensis. Its chemical structure allows it to disrupt fungal cell membrane synthesis, leading to increased cell membrane permeability and enhanced secretion of extracellular polysaccharides. However, prochloraz is light-sensitive and can degrade, reducing its efficacy. Recent studies have focused on improving its photostability by converting it into ionic liquids using natural organic acids, thereby enhancing its environmental safety and efficacy. Additionally, prochloraz has been embedded in chitosan end-capped mesoporous silica nanoparticles to create environmentally friendly preharvest treatment agents. Despite its benefits, prochloraz poses risks to aquatic life and potential health concerns due to residues in agricultural produce, necessitating careful management and application.
