RIQ1 is a plant thylakoid membrane protein implicated in photosystem II organization and electron transport efficiency. It associates with PSII supercomplexes and helps maintain proper stacking and stability of grana, supporting optimal energy transfer and photochemistry under fluctuating light. RIQ1 expression aligns with chloroplast development and high light acclimation, and loss of function leads to altered thylakoid ultrastructure, reduced PSII efficiency, and increased photoinhibition. By coordinating PSII architecture and repair dynamics, RIQ1 contributes to photosynthetic performance, redox balance, and growth.
