Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please, remember to spin tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from lyophilized material adhering to the cap or sides of the tubes.

RbcS encodes the small subunit of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco) and, in land plants, is typically carried as a nuclear multigene family whose protein product is synthesized in the cytosol as a precursor bearing an N-terminal chloroplast transit peptide that is cleaved after import, yielding a mature small subunit that accumulates in the chloroplast stroma. In Arabidopsis thaliana, representative family members produce a small-chain polypeptide containing the conserved Rubisco small-chain domain, and the nuclear genes share a conserved exon-intron organization (classically two introns within the coding region) consistent with a duplicated, closely related gene family. The mature RbcS polypeptide assembles with the chloroplast-encoded large subunits (RbcL) to form the canonical Form I L8S8 Rubisco holoenzyme (eight large and eight small subunits). Although the catalytic active site resides in RbcL, RbcS is required for proper holoenzyme biogenesis and contributes to enzyme performance by influencing assembly, stability, and kinetic properties (including parameters affecting CO2 fixation versus O2 competition), thereby helping determine Rubisco content and photosynthetic capacity in green tissues.
