Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.

SBPase encodes a nuclear-encoded, chloroplast-targeted stromal enzyme of the Calvin-Benson-Bassham cycle, synthesized as a precursor bearing an N-terminal chloroplast transit peptide that is removed after import to yield the mature catalytic protein. The enzyme is a member of the sedoheptulose-1,7-bisphosphatase family (EC 3.1.3.37) and adopts an architecture closely related to chloroplast fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase, with quaternary organization commonly observed as a homodimer in characterized plant-lineage enzymes. SBPase catalyzes the Mg2+-dependent hydrolysis of sedoheptulose-1,7-bisphosphate to sedoheptulose-7-phosphate and inorganic phosphate, a committed dephosphorylation step that supports regeneration of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate and thereby sustains CO2 assimilation by Rubisco; consistent with its role as a control point for Calvin-cycle flux, increasing SBPase abundance/activity elevates photosynthetic capacity and growth in multiple photosynthetic systems, and the enzyme's activity is sensitive to stromal redox conditions (e.g., requiring reducing conditions for full activity).
