Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please, remember to spin tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from lyophilized material adhering to the cap or sides of the tubes.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Arabidopsis thaliana, Oryza sativa, Pisum sativum
TOM40 1 2 are core pore forming subunits of the translocase of the outer mitochondrial membrane that create the channel through which most nuclear encoded mitochondrial proteins cross into the organelle in plants. They assemble with receptors such as TOM20 and TOM22 and small Tom proteins to form the TOM complex that recognizes presequences or targeting signals and guides unfolded precursors into the intermembrane space. TOM40 contributes to selective permeability, voltage dependence, and quality control during import, coordinating with inner membrane complexes for translocation and folding. Distinct TOM40 isoforms show tissue and condition specific expression that supports mitochondrial biogenesis, respiration, and stress responses. Perturbation of TOM40 function impairs protein import, disrupts energy metabolism and redox balance, and leads to growth and developmental defects.
