Tulathromycin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic primarily used in veterinary medicine to treat respiratory diseases in cattle and swine caused by Gram-positive and certain Gram-negative bacteria. Structurally, tulathromycin features a 15-membered ring, distinguishing it from other macrolides and enhancing its pharmacokinetic properties such as tissue penetration and prolonged activity. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting protein synthesis by binding to the bacterial 23S ribosomal RNA component of the 50S subunit, thereby impeding the growth and reproduction of bacteria.
