Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 200 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Senegalese sole, Dicentrarchus labrax (sea bass), Sparus aurata (seabream)
VTG encodes vitellogenin, a secreted yolk-precursor glycolipophosphoprotein that is synthesized predominantly in extra-ovarian tissue (classically liver in oviparous vertebrates) and released into the circulation for receptor-mediated uptake by growing oocytes during vitellogenesis, thereby supplying bulk nutrients required for embryonic development. At the protein level, vitellogenins are very large multidomain lipoproteins that enter the secretory pathway via an N-terminal signal peptide and share a conserved architecture comprising an N-terminal lipoprotein domain (vitellogenin_N/LPD_N), a central DUF1943 region, and a C-terminal von Willebrand factor type D-like domain; many taxa additionally produce characteristic yolk proteins through proteolytic processing of vitellogenin after ovarian uptake, yielding major yolk components such as lipovitellin heavy and light chains and, in some lineages, a serine-rich phosvitin region and other C-terminal fragments. VTG expression is strongly regulated by endocrine cues (notably estrogen-responsive control in liver), making VTG a core molecular effector linking reproductive hormonal signaling to deposition of lipid, phosphate, and other nutrient reserves into eggs.
