4-Nitrofurazone is an antibiotic and antiprotozoal agent that is commonly used in veterinary medicine. It works by disrupting the bacterial cell wall and inhibiting the growth of protozoa. The metabolite of 4-Nitrofurazone is nifurtimox, which has antiprotozoal and antitumor properties. Nifurtimox has been used to treat Chagas disease, a parasitic infection that affects millions of people worldwide.
